This record is one of great historic properties and let's us hear the voice of the greatest soprano of the 19th century, when you hear this you hear a voice that was heard for the first time in 1851 and she sang for President Buchannon in the 1850's and sang for some of the greatest composers and personalities and here in the new century we hear the voice that was heard by those over 150 years ago, isn't recorded sound amazing?

I am glad we have this song unchanged by modern tech. Frankly, for historical value.

More a piece of history than an aesthetic experience, but it does give an idea of how magnificent Patti´s voice was. Criticisms are imho misplaced, the type of recording used was not kind to the soprano voice, distorting on the higher notes. If CD versions sound better it is probably because the original recording was buggered about with in the studio, something that makes me very uneasy, and why I prefer to stick to original recordings where available

Oh no, not spuzz again. Attacks on music you don't like are valueless - no-one will be impressed. Most of Patti's original 78s are in terrible condition, so it wasn't a very good idea to post it. Also Patti had made her debut at sixteen - she hadn't even finished growing. My own view is that at 63 the strain of doing this was showing. Since Verdi, Puccini and Bernard Shaw all said she was the finest of all, we have to realise we're not hearing what they heard. Nevertheless, her version of "Ah, non credea" is unmatched by anyone, except the much younger Galli-Curci, and the sensuality of her voice still comes out in most of her recordings - when they can be heard. 5 stars for Patti, one for the sound.

This recording does not reveal why Giuseppe Verdi called her the "greatest singer he ever heard", it's sad to hear this great voice so mangled.

Recorded for posterity in her ageing years with the best technology available in 1905. An absolutely wonderfull treasure, I wish I had been there.

This is atrocious. Adelina Patti had a beautiful voice and you should listen to her on the commercially available CDs (compilation CDs of great singers). She participated in some of the earliest recording sessions and her reputation will suffer from the releasing here of these primitive recordings.

Although this is supposedly a classic singer, the singing here is nothing short of awful, the last couple of notes are ear-cringing.
